J'adore la petite france!!

My husband and I have driven by this restaurant many times and we finally decided to try it. We had a lovely evening that included great food and wonderful service. If you are looking for a unique dining experience and want to try something new, support this little slice of France.

A Bistro-sized Restaurant Experience

We again enjoyed their competent, if not exactly traditional, French cuisine in this ageless little restaurant where only the staff and prices have changed much since our last visit 21 years ago. The smooth, deep red bisque was a lighter rendering of the item where tomato paste replaced the the usual heavy cream and butter finish. It was appreciated and the rich flavor of the lobster stock and purée still shone through. Our darnes of salmon were perfectly cooked and served over plain rice then napped with a béchamel sauce gently infused with flecks of sorrel that imparted little of their bitterness. The accompanying bouquet of vegetables included broccoli, baked eggplant slices, carrot sticks and toothsome zucchini slices, all perfectly cooked. Why can't more restaurants serve an adequate amount of vegetables cooked this well? Their food temperatures couldn't be improved upon. We finished this leisurely dinner with a rich caramel custard and freshly brewed strong coffee. Service throughout was friendly, capable and certainly not rushed. Parking on the street here is scant but there is a public lot a block and a half east on the north side of Bloor.

I was compeletely swept away in this, my first visit to this french culinary gem. The starter, fois gras with pears, was truly amazing and the rabbit stew was not far behind. The new owners are friendly and add a very personable ambiance and a care for quality that is readily experienced. A must!

The food was absolutely incredible. It was difficult to choose among such palatable dishes, but I fared well. I have rarely had ecargot as good as from la petite france. The lamb was tender and the berry sauce finished it off perfectly. And for dessert - well, this has to be the best creme brulee I have ever tasted. My compliments to the chef and the new owners!
