I work in customer service, so I understand that things don't always go as planned. It is how an establishment deals with their mistakes that really shows how good they are , in my humble opinion. We go to Swiss Chalet all the time, the food is always hot and delicious and up to the Swiss Chalet Standard, the service is usually pretty good, quick for sure and the restaurant smells good and is clean. We often order take out from this location, and we have had a few problems, orders not being filled correctly, no gravy for the poutine, little things like that. One time we ordered and they called back 30 minutes later to tell us there was a snow storm and the delivery person went home! Needless to say I complained. I got a personal response from the Manager appologizing for our bad experience and comping us for two 1/4 chicken dinners! WOW, I thought that was just great. I get that mistakes are made, but I have never had anyone take responsibility and compensate me so quickly and politely! Since then we have ordered a few times and we haven't had anymore problems. I came to this restaurant for my father's birthday and the food was incredible. It is an authetic portuguese restaurant on James street in Hamilton. For an appetizer we had the Bruchetta, which is baked pizza style bread topped with tomato, onion and garlic. Yumm! For the dish I ate the Filete com arroz, which is fish filete with seafood rice. The dish cost $17 but was really cheap considering the amount of food that was provided. I will definetely return to this restaurant and recommend anyone to try this place. They have a large menu with many options. If you havent tried portuguese food or just love the food, you wont be disappointed at the Wild Orchid. Read more

Wonderful restaurant and drinking establishment. I usually go there with my boyfriend but sometimes, late at night, when he is asleep, you can find me at Jax because that is where good friends meet. And I've met so many good friends like MJ and have recently got my hair extensions done by this beautiful woman who had carried around roses that entire evening. I went there once with my friend Claire, who was, at the time, struggling with her weight and needed assistance to get to the karaoke bar to sing 'Stand By Your Man' and no one mocked her obesity. The food there is great and it is full of great real people. I cannot highly recommended this place enough and when you come out on a Saturday night after making an easy 25 bucks, I'll have a place reserved for you at my table. When it comes to fine dining, Lord Nelsons definitely does not disappoint. With delicious food and quality service, I would have to say this is one of the classiest restaurants in the Hamilton area. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the warming and peaceful atmosphere. There are only a handful of tables and a bar in the whole restaurant and it makes for a almost private and intimate dinner experience. This is not a jeans and t-shirt type of place, everyone inside is dressed professional and fancy. I would recommend a dress and heels for the women and dress pants and button down shirt for the men. And obviously from my previous statements this is not really what I would call a family restaurant. With the close tables and quiet music I would think children would feel out of place at an establishment like this. Nonetheless I feel like it is a great date night place, very romantic and relaxing. The menu I would say is perfect for the restaurant. It includes a variety of different meal choices but doesn't overwhelm the customer. We had chosen the Peppercorn steak and the Filet mignon for our main courses. I would say that they were better then what I expected, cooked and seasoned perfectly, I would definitely recommend there food to anyone. The main courses range anywhere from $20 - $60 which is a little higher then your average dinner but in the end I think it is worth the little extra price for the quality. The only concern I had about going here was their location. It was a little difficult to find as it is located in a small plaza tucked away beside a laundromat. Also the exterior of the restaurant is not what you would expect for a high class place like this, and I didn't find it all that appealing. The front doors are very Castle like and there are no windows at all. At first glance I thought it was closed. But if you can get past that It was great experience and I would recommend it to anyone. I was wary to visit this place from the previous reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! They've done renovations as well as changed their menu. It has been for the better! Our server, George, although new to the restaurant (starting one week prior) was very knowledgeable. I ask as many questions as possible, and I'm glad he could answer most, others he would go to the kitchen to ask any he did not know. One important question was where they source their beef, I was told it is all Ontario beef which pleased me. The Beef Carpaccio was nice, as well as the Beef Wellington. Not the most traditional way to create the dish, but it was still tasty. The pork was nice, although the apple-bacon compote may have been a bit over-the-top on bacon. The Lamb chop was crusted nicely and was done VERY evenly. The dessert was something else. Homemade marshmallows, homemade graham cookies, caramel sauce, and milk chocolate sauce. The marshmallows were on sticks and you have your own campfire that comes along with it. Very novel, very exciting, and the smell of the fire was very close to a campfire. All in all, a good visit. We've always wanted to try this place out, so we finally did! We reserved a table for two online for 630, but we didn't end up getting there until just before 7. The maitre'd read our special instructions that was sent with our online reservation and seated us in a quiet corner at a bigger booth for just the two of us. Not that the place was loud or overly busy, but it was great that we were seated farther away from the rest of the crowds that were there and we were not forgotten about! Since it was our first time there, our server showed us the menu and gave her suggestions. Some sounded tempting but we decided to go with our own choices. We both got steaks and got the Caesar salads to start. We also got bread with sweet butter and stuffed mushrooms. We started off with Caesar salad and bread served. Then our stuffed mushrooms. Then came our steaks. One done medium the other done medium well. They were both beautifully cooked and we both enjoyed our loaded potatoes as well! Since we were there to celebrate, our server took care of us with a rich dessert - double chocolate brownie! We enjoyed every part of our meal! The bread was a 7 grain bread, crisp on the outside, warm and light on the inside! The Caesar salad had a very nice garlic taste with a tiny kick. The steaks melted in your mouth and was easy to devour. The loaded potato (minus the chives) was nice and fluffy with lots of sour cream, cheese and bacon! And the dessert was an excellent addition! We both got drinks from the bar as well throughout our meal - they were mixed decently, but felt it was a little too light on the alcohol. All in all, our server was great, and never forgot about us, the maitre'd was excellent for our request. And we had a great first experience here. We'll definitely go again!
