Meet the owner

For those in the know, Pub Le Sainte-Élisabeth is the type of place that feels like a second home, though the uninitiated can hardly be blamed for missing this charming alcove, located on a quiet side street since 1997. “People come here for the ultra-friendly ambiance and staff,” explains manager Martin Dubé, who has been keeping the home fires burning since 2002. “People really do feel at home here and they want to come back. That’s what we want to achieve with each beer served.”

Good eating around the Montreal metro’s Berri-UQAM station

This “secret” pub (well hidden away in an alley) is renowned for its huge terrace, or should I say its “interior garden”. Obviously, you don’t sit down here just to eat, but you can accompany your beer with pizza, poutine, cheese sticks, or chicken fingers, fish n' chips and Bernese sausages.

Montreal's top hidden terraces

Montreal's top hidden terraces

Looking at the front of Le Sainte-Élisabeth, you would never imagine that it’s home to one of the most beautiful back courtyards in the city. Located just down the street from Metropolis, it is enclosed by brick walls covered in vines, with trees sprouting through the floor. The space is dimly lit with streetlamps, which create a warm and inviting atmosphere, even on a cool evening.

Best terraces for enjoying the Montreal weather

Best terraces for enjoying the Montreal weather

Montreal is known for having one of the most bipolar climates. After a deep winter freeze, the city floods into the streets and parks to soak in the warm sun. Cinq à sept culture – or happy hour – thrives in the summer, and those heavenly terraces come alive on any day of the week.
